We are very excited to provide intravenous (IV) sedation to help our Merritt Island, FL patients enjoy a more favorable dental experience. IV sedation may be used on individuals that experience stress or fear about visiting the dentist. This therapy at Merritt Island Center for Dentistry uses anti-anxiety medication that's administered straight through your vein. The medicine can help you to stay relaxed and calm throughout your dental therapy. Although you aren't really asleep throughout the procedure, the comfort and short-term memory loss may make you feel like you've been asleep. Skilled dentist Dr. Dieter Burr may also adjust the level of medication based upon your needs for optimal safety. To find out more about IV sedation, please contact our office at your earliest convenience.

"Dr. Burr's office and staff are wonderful. Like most people, I have a great deal of anxiety when it comes to dentists and when I expressed this to Dr Burr. The day of my appointment, he and his staff made me extremely comfortable and my procedure was done within a half hour. I am recommending ever one that I know to Dr Burr."- R.G. / Google / May 16, 2019
"I seen Dr Burr for what I thought might be a root canal. Turns out it was just a cracked molar and needed a crown. It was an easy fix! Dr Burr and his staff were amazing! They made sure that I was comfortable for the procedure. It only took 2 hours and my crown that was ordered came in, right on time. It fit perfectly and didnt need any adjustment. A great first time visit and experience. We will definitely be calling Dr Burr our family dentist."- R.K. / Google / May 03, 2019

The best candidates for intravenous sedation could be any patient dealing with stress about undergoing an extensive dental therapy. This sedation dentistry procedure helps you to bear the dental care that you need without distress or anxiety. Before undergoing therapy, Dr. Burr will talk with you concerning the multiple sedation dentistry choices our clinic provides to recommend the ideal one for you.
What To Expect
To receive intravenous sedation, a needle will be placed inside a vein and the medication will be given. You will start to notice the effects in a couple of minutes. Dr. Burr will begin to complete the procedure, while also tracking the IV amounts. After the procedure is complete, the IV will be taken out and you'll feel alert within a couple of moments.
It's advised that you don't operate a vehicle for a period of 24 hours after IV sedation. You should arrange for someone trustworthy to collect you from the office and drive you home. You might feel exhausted for the remainder of the afternoon, so we recommend that you drink a lot of water to remain hydrated and relax if at all possible. Sometimes, you could become nauseous or experience temporary memory loss. These symptoms will typically decrease within 24 hours of receiving the sedation. If you notice any abnormalities or your symptoms persist, then you need to call our facility right away.
Intravenous sedation might or might not be covered at least in part by the dental insurance. Before approving the sedation, our billing staff will get in touch with your insurance provider to ascertain any extra out-of-pocket expenses. Merritt Island Center for Dentistry also offers financial planning and payment options to make therapy less expensive for most of our patients.
